John F. PetriniIn Memoriam 1944-2008Bakersfield Office John F. Petrini was a Capital Partner working in Borton Petrini LLP’s Bakersfield office. John was AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Davis, and received his J.D. from UC Davis School of Law. After graduation, he stayed with the law school, serving as assistant dean before going to work for the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office. He joined the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office in 1973, supervising the Major Crimes Division. John came to the Firm in 1978, specializing in business litigation and personal injury cases. Three decades of practice gave John experience in a vast array of areas. He concentrated his practice in the areas of health care law, business litigation, commercial disputes, breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, and other business torts. He represented medical providers and institutions in health care matters and the defense of medical malpractice cases. John was lead counsel on appeal before the California Supreme Court establishing new law in the area of owner’s liability for the alleged negligent hiring of an independent contractor (Camargo v. Tjaarda Dairy (2001) 25 Cal. 4th 1235). John was a member of the State Bar of California and served as past president of the Kern County Bar Association. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for the California Pacific School of Law and served as its dean. His involvement with legal education was evident in his past service on the editorial board of California Defense magazine. He was the editor of Estate Planning Law Quarterly Report. In addition to his professional affiliations, John used his time and abilities for community service. He was assistant dean to U.C. Davis School of Law, and was general counsel to the Kern Economic Development Corporation. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield and was the Club secretary during the 2002-2003 fiscal year. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kern Bridges Youth Homes. He was a director of the Petroleum Club of Bakersfield and sat on the Board of Directors for Stockdale Country Club. John took part in the life of California State University, Bakersfield, by participating on the board of CSUB’s Roadrunner Club, where was the fund-raising co-chairperson in 1993 and 1994, as well as vice president in 1997 and 1998, and president in 1999 and 2000. John leaves behind his wife Jan Petrini, two children, Jeff and Jessica, and grandchildren, Abby and Ashley. |
