Jonathan P. Geen is a partner in the San Diego office of Borton Petrini, LLP. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia College of Columbia University in the City of New York. At Columbia, Jonathan was class president, a member of the Senior Honor Society of Sachems, and recipient of the John J. Coss Memorial Prize for “scholastic attainment, aesthetic appreciation, and sense of public responsibility.” He received his Juris Doctorate from Northwestern University School of Law in 1985, and represented Northwestern in the Chicago Area Moot Court competition.

Jonathan has practiced law in Illinois, as well as California. He is experienced in both litigation and non-litigation matters.

Jonathan is an experienced litigator, having handled trials and appeals in varied litigation matters, including business litigation, labor and employment law, consumer law, real estate litigation, insurance defense, insurance coverage, intellectual property, and infringement matters.
Mr. Geen has represented automobile dealers on a wide variety of matters. Ambre v. Joe Madden Ford, 81 F. Supp. 1187 (N.D. Ill. 1995), one of his automotive cases, made new law in Illinois regarding the distinction between “new” and “used” motor vehicles.

He has also made new law in California on the issue of the discoverability of reinsurance in Catholic Mutual Relief Society v. Superior Court (2007) 42 Cal.4th 358, a case he successfully argued in front of the California Supreme Court on behalf of Catholic Mutual.

On the transactional side, Jonathan assists businesses in their business formation, and virtually all of their day-to-day operational issues, including the drafting of employee handbooks and policies, as well as other policies and forms to assist businesses in minimizing their risk.

He also is experienced in drafting and negotiating contracts; licensing, option, and employment agreements for a wide variety of industries, including the entertainment and sports industries.
A former professional singer/dancer/actor with off-Broadway credits, Jonathan now uses his dramatic skills before judges and juries.

When not practicing law, Jonathan travels the country judging competitive figure skating as a national-level judge for the United States Figure Skating Association, and is the national vice chair of the State Farm Scholastic Honors Team. He also serves as vice president of the Escondido Figure Skating Club.
