Lynne L. Bentley is a Partner in the San Jose office of Borton Petrini, LLP. She has been with the Firm since 1993. Her undergraduate work was at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Santa Clara University. She graduated from Santa Clara University in 1984 and went on to receive her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1988. She is admitted to practice in the State of California, and the United States District Court, Northern District. Lynne specializes in cases dealing with employment law, professional liability, construction defect, and business matters, including collection actions.

Lynne also has extensive experience in personal injury matters, particularly in disputes involving mold or toxic torts. She has also handled wrongful death cases, including on behalf of trucking companies. Her background in professional liability cases includes those pertaining to attorney malpractice, as well as dental, medical and nursing malpractice. Lynne has worked with health maintenance organizations in her representation of medical and dental professionals.

Her employment law experience began with representing individuals and companies in wrongful termination cases. Since 1993, she has been defending employers before administrative bodies and in litigated cases involving sexual harassment, discrimination, wage disputes and wrongful termination. She also handles collection matters for employers.

Throughout her career, she has represented clients in construction defect cases, particularly those claiming damages due to mold.

Lynne has been active in many professional organizations. Among these are the State Bar of California and the Santa Clara University School of Law Alumni Board of Directors, where she served as President and Secretary. Her article on the Peculiar Risk Doctrine, “Goodbye and Good Riddance,” was published in the fall 1993 issue of California Defense magazine. Another article entitled, “Better Safe than Sorry: Have a Court Approve all Claims Made by a Minor,” appears in the Summer 2003 issue of California Defense magazine.

Part of Lynne’s busy schedule is devoted to volunteer work and community service. Her active involvement in the Santa Clara University School of Law includes her participation in the mock interview process, as well as serving as a moot court judge and previously serving as the President of Law Alumni Association. She also previously sat on the Prusch Park Board of Directors and has served on the Board of Directors for the Campfire Boys and Girls. Lynne also has represented pro bono clients in a wide variety of cases.

Lynne is married to Kevin J. Sullivan, and they have two sons, Joe and Kenny.
